An Eye on the Economy

The Jackson Hole Economic Dashboard is compiled by the Jackson Hole Chamber of Commerce each month so that our Members can be aware of the numbers that effect business in Jackson Hole.

Jackson Hole Economic Dashboard - February 10th, 2012

  • Sales & Use Tax Income for Teton County for December 2011 was up by 21% as compared to December 2010 and up 65% as compared to December 2009. (Note: these figures come from the following Wyoming Department of Revenue webpage:

  • Unemployment rate for December 2011 was down by .5% as compared to December 2010 and December 2009, respectively.
  • Visitor inquiries for January 2012 were up by 6% as compared to January 2011 and up 16% as compared to January 2010.
  • Visitation at Grand Teton National Park was down by 10% for January 2012 as compared to January 2011 and down 4% as compared to January 2010.
  • Visitation at Yellowstone National Park was up by 1% for January 2012 as compared to January 2011 and down 3% as compared to January 2010.
  • Visitation at the Jackson Hole & Greater Yellowstone Visitor Center was down by 15% for January 2012 as compared to January 2011 and up 13% as compared to January 2010.
  • Jackson Hole Airport enplanements for January 2012 were down by 15% as compared to January 2011 and January 2010, respectively.
  • Lodging occupancy rates were down 2% as compared to January 2011 and stayed the same as compared to January 2010.
  • Business Licenses Issued were up by 25% as compared to January 2011 and down 52% as compared to January 2010.
  • Real Estate sales were up by 28% (# of sales) and up 16% ($ volume) for the fourth quarter of 2011 as compared to the fourth quarter of 2010, and up by 83% (# of sales) and up 76% ($ volume) as compared to the fourth quarter of 2009.
  • Construction permits for January 2012 were down by 44% as compared to January 2011 and January 2010, respectively. 
  • Residential construction total value for January 2012 was up by 368% as compared to January 2011 and down 18% as compared to January 2010.
  • Commercial construction total value for January 2012 was down by 93% as compared to 2011 and was $25,000 as compared to $0 in 2010.
