Snake River Webcam

The Snake River is the thirteenth longest river in the United States, spanning almost 108,000 square miles. These headwaters are considered some of the most pristine in the country. Some sections have been declared Wild and Scenic, and is often referred to as one of the last intact functioning temperate ecosystems on earth.

The first American group to cross the Rocky Mountains and sail down the Snake and Columbia rivers to the Pacific Ocean were part of the Lewis and Clark Expedition from 1804–1806. But the Snake has flown through Nez Perce lands for tens of thousands of years.

In addition to small aquatic species, much of the Snake River watershed supports larger animals including numerous species of mammals, birds, amphibians, and reptiles. The Snake River is enjoyed by animals and humans alike. Revil in the scenic beauty and be inspired by the wildlife on a scenic float trip tour.

For thrill-seekers in search of a whitewater rafting adventure, and for those just trying out a new sport, and who need to rent  a canoe, kayak, or stand-up-paddle board, there are number of ways to experience the Snake on your own but be responsibly active. Know before you go, how to self rescue, have a PFD, know what the water conditions are like, and take a look at a map with someone from one of the whitewater shops or outfits.
