Chamber Seeking Communications Manager

Position Description: Communications Manager

Reports to: CEO/President

Classification: Year Round/Full Time

 

Primary Purpose

The Communications Manager works with the CEO, and other Chamber Directors (Membership, Events, Visitor Services, Global Sales) to really own, plan and execute internal and external communications. They will be our lead Brand Ambassador exemplifying the Chamber Brand daily in all we do. The Communications Manager will write, edit, and manage the production of a full range of print and digital material to effectively achieve the strategic objectives and mission for the Jackson Hole Chamber of Commerce.

They will be tasked with all Chamber outreach, and member communication. They will create and schedule social media, ECRM, traditional media and native content and blogs for Jacksonholechamber.com. This position must stay in front of trending social media and technology updates as they pertain to integration with communications strategies. This position manages all domestic and international media relations and works collaboratively with the Global Sales Director to create consistent messaging in all key markets.  This position acts as the Public Information Officer for all Chamber of Commerce related events, is the liaison to community media, crisis and other relevant communications groups.

Duties

 

  • Website Content /Blog Creation

Creating and updating jacksonholechamber.com content, ensuring that content is accurate and timely. Working with Chamber staff weekly to determine content, in particular Membership, Events and Advocacy. Working in CMS to update and maintain time sensitive material including seasonal changeover of content, events updates, new information, blogs and news widgets. Website functionality/consumer advocacy –reorganize content to improve information flow. Writing, editing and proofreading web, social and press release content and following best management practices for SEO.  (Requires working with content management software.) Experience with Google Analytics and SEO Software such as MOZ is necessary.

  • Social Media Management: Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, Pinterest, Vimeo

Social media connects the Jackson Hole Chamber of Commerce with four groups: Chamber Members, community members, new or repeat visitors, and other chambers of commerce. This effort works to achieve new member recruitment and retention while encouraging visitors to patronize Chamber Member businesses and increase repeat trips. In addition to regular new post creation and reposting, the Communications Manager must update and respond to comments on all social media channels, compile and analyze community engagement, recommend changes in editorial policy and planning and be aware of new technologies and trends. This is a high priority to keep engagement growing, it requires constant upkeep using strategies to support posts such as boosting, creating ads on Google Adwords, monitoring large events and using Meltwater (Media analyzing software) to manage accounts, connections and conversations.

  • Scheduled E Newsletters for Members and Visitors (New)

Create and distribute weekly e-newsletter that provides Chamber Members and partners with a convenient distillation of each week’s news and events from sources including the Chamber, State of Wyoming, Wyoming Chamber of Commerce Executives, and Chamber Members. Communications Manager also builds and delivers targeted membership segments emails with specific messages. This position is responsible for ECRM calendar for all staff to avoid over delivery.

  • Teton Tales: E Newsletter for Visitors

Build, send, monitor and report results from monthly email to visitor database. Includes the dissemination of timely/seasonal information including updates on the town, business operations, deals, events and more. This E-newsletter includes advertising and requires collaboration with Membership team on content suggestions.

  • Media Relations, Releases and Monitoring

The Chamber is involved with events, advocacy, and promotions each month. The Communications Manager is responsible for crafting all draft releases (approval by relevant Director), reviewing media/ membership lists and delivering releases.  They will also be responsible for reviewing, growing and managing media lists to support proactive media work year-round. Media coverage is tracked and archived on a media database. Respond to all media requests and manages Media FAM requests. Photo Library needs to be updated to support responses to media.

  • Special Projects

The Chamber has several special projects every year. Examples include Membership Surveys (including the annual survey, summer employee shortage survey, and strategic plan survey), Explorer Magazine (help with editorial such as the welcome letter and area information), Crisis Communications (including natural disasters like wildfires, community response issues, and working with the Public Relations/ Public Information Officer Committee), Special Campaigns (including lodging tax campaign and the National Geographic World Legacy Award Nomination), U.S. Chamber of Commerce Accreditation, etc.…

The Communications Manager will have varied roles including complete management to different levels of support usually focused on public communication, staff support and volunteer support.

  • Young Professionals of the Tetons

Be the staff liaison for Young Professionals of the Tetons Chamber Committee. In addition to attending bi-monthly meetings and liaising with rest of Chamber staff/board, providing support to the committee via ECRM, social, meeting support, newsletter writing and new member recruitment

  •  Manage the Business List Serve or similar tool

The Business List Serve is a member-to-member communication and networking tool that provides the ability for quick and easy group communication. Members often require tech assistance, subscription (cancelling subscriptions) and outreach advice. The interaction provides the opportunity to engage and discuss needs with Members.

  • Media “FAM” Familiarization Trips

Work with the Wyoming Office of Tourism, Jackson Hole Mountain Resort, and other entities on bringing media into Jackson and assisting with any lodging or activity needs. Utilize “Meltwater” media software to find key writers (or establish if media reaching out to us are valid for different levels of support) to help promote the destination in the winter, spring, and fall. This can be proactive and reactive in day to day. This position is responsible for creating media during spring/fall events and can lead FAM trips; the rest of the year this position is a support role for our partners, focused on representing town business and regional opportunities.

  • Digital Photo and Video collection and sharing.

Responsible for events, outdoors, landscape, town/business, shoot-as-you-go strategy, inviting and managing staff to assist efforts. Establish easy to access library relationships to be able to source images from other non-chamber events and member events

OTHER FUNCTIONS

  • Represent company at events, shows and conferences
  • Assist Sales & Special Events in times of groups, events, etc.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITY:

Required:

  • Highly organized, pro-active, creative and analytical skills
  • SEO and Google Analytics
  • Experience with Meltwater (or similar) media database
  • Ability to multi-task, work independently, and adapt to change; attention to detail.
  • ECRM platform delivery and database experience.
  • Champion social media tools and tech
  • Strong written communication skills
  • Responsive to written/verbal requests

PREFERRED

  • Video Filming/Production experience
  • Photography Skills/ Equipment
  • Project management skills, strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Enthusiasm for Jackson Hole, WY

EDUCATION OR FORMAL TRAINING:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing, Communications or Business
  • 2 years of marketing/communication experience preferred
