November 9, 2015 - The Jackson Hole Chamber of Commerce (JHCC) strives to serve its members by providing first-rate benefits while cultivating an organization that accomplishes its mission with integrity and represents the distinctive community of Jackson Hole with aplomb. The JHCC received word that these efforts have not gone unrecognized.
The JHCC has earned a 5-Star Accreditation from the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. This prestigious honor places the JHCC among the top 1% of chambers nationwide. The JHCC is the only accredited chamber in the state of Wyoming and one of just four 5-Star Accredited chambers in the region (Wyoming, Colorado, Idaho, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Utah).
"Accreditation validates a chamber as having programs that benefit their local economy and for positively influencing action in their community," said Raymond P. Towle, IOM, CAE, Vice President, Federation Relations and Institute for Organization Management. "We applaud these organizations for advancing the principles of free enterprise."
President/CEO Jeff Golightly commented, "Chambers are reflections of their members and we’re proud to build a first-class chamber that represents our hard-working community." He continued, "Our staff, volunteer board of directors, and volunteer committee members are dedicated to the success of the JHCC to the benefit of all of our members."
The rigorous accreditation application covers nine modules: benchmarking, communications, facilities, finance, governance, government affairs, human resources, program development, and technology. Each of these modules is designed to advance a chamber’s mission.
Jeff noted, "Members of the JHCC can feel confident that their chamber is working for them. The benchmarks that must be achieved to earn a 5-Star Accreditation indicate a high level of program effectiveness."
The JHCC earned 4-Star Accreditation in 2012. Based on recommendations and best practices, the JHCC took action to make improvements.
Board Chair Julie Faupel commented, "Our dynamic all-volunteer Board of Directors is committed to the JHCC’s mission to champion the interests of local businesses and we’re thrilled that this 5-Star Accreditation validates our efforts."
Specific improvements have been made in the government affairs module. Working for members at the national level, Past Chair Scott Anderson serves on the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors and Director of Visitor Services Rick Howe, IOM serves on the Winter Board of Regents for the U.S. Chamber Foundation’s Institute for Organization Management. At the state level, the JHCC organizes a group of key players in Teton County to visit the capitol during the Governor’s Conference on Tourism and interface with the legislators during the conference. Locally, the JHCC has focused on improving communication with elected officials. The JHCC has made significant efforts to ensure the success of the lodging tax which has had a positive impact on improving the JHCC’s ability to accomplish its mission by improving the quality of visitor services; contributing funds for domestic and international travel and trade show attendance that promote the fall, winter, and spring seasons; and helping to create a more sustainable, year-round economy by boosting special events that attract visitors during the fall, winter, and spring seasons.
The JHCC will not rest on its laurels. The U.S. Chamber of Commerce has made additional suggestions and each department and committee continues to strive toward accomplishing short- and long-term goals.
"Special recognition goes to Executive Assistant Casey Stout, IOM. The comprehensive accreditation application requires a team effort but it was successfully completed due in large part to Casey’s careful management of the process and her ability to engage her colleagues," Jeff concluded.
