Skiers and snowboarders flock to the Tetons for the winter to dive into our deep powder wonderland. The summer months—and extending into fall—bring national park travelers, outdoorsman, and adventurers excited to explore our natural wonders. But spring just might be the secret season not to be missed. Make time to experience this surprising season with a few favorite activities from year-round residents:
By late March and early April, spring is on everyone’s minds. Trips are being planned to West Yellowstone where some of the roads in Yellowstone National Park are open to all, except cars - bikers, runners, rollerbladers you name it! For some locals, though it’s all about spring skiing. Hit the slopes for your spring-break getaway and enjoy warm, soft snow that you might hear a local call “corn skiing.” Make plans to visit Jackson Hole Mountain Resort and Snow King by the first week of April. For a late-spring getaway, book an adrenaline-inducing whitewater rafting expedition with any local outfitter. The spring snowmelt makes for high, fast water, perfect for an exhilarating float.
Unlock your own private park experience with a bike ride through Grand Teton National Park’s inner road, just like you can in Yellowstone. After the snow begins to melt, the road remains closed to motorized vehicles at the Bradley and Taggart Lake trailhead parking lot and is plowed all the way to Signal Mountain Lodge. Grab your bike, bear spray, and a few extra layers—the key to spring is being prepared!—and get ready for the bike ride of a lifetime as you pedal toward the towering Tetons.

There’s not much better than a hot drink from one of our local coffee shops. Sip while walking about Town Square—remember to bring a reusable coffee mug or buy an insulated tumbler souvenir. Duck into world- renowned galleries and enjoy taking in the top-tiered talent hanging on the walls. Keep your eyes open for exquisite jewelry that combines timeless style with a touch of the West, featuring freshwater pearls, diamonds, and leathers. Expand on your Town Square gallivanting with an afternoon spent exploring the local shops.
No matter when you visit, be weather- ready! You never know what the weather might bring to the Tetons in spring. The perk: You might get to see it all in one getaway. May’s average highs are a comfortable and cool 54 degrees. The average rests right around 39 degrees. Sunshine, spring showers, cold snaps, warm afternoons, and even a little snow are all the norm. But as they say: There’s no bad weather, just bad gear. Take advantage of end-of-season-sales at any of the local outfitters and grab a great insulated rain jacket you can easily stow away when the clouds part.
