Take Dreamcatcher to the top of Fred’s Mountain and come eye to eye with The Grand as you embark on nearly 3000 acres of skiable terrain. Notorious for deep powder and for offering up an inbounds experience that gives the same thrills of a backcountry adventure, Grand Targhee Resort on the west side of the Tetons sees about 500 inches of snow each year.

Targhee Ski Lift

Consistent snowfall, wide-open terrain, and breathtaking views have made this Wydaho ski resort a staple for powder hounds since 1969. This laid-back ski area has it all: the mountain vibe and epic terrain with over 2000 feet of vertical.

The Ghee is also the first ski resort in the United States to embrace and endorse winter fat bikes on their Winter Sports Trail System. Fat bikers enjoy access to over 9 miles of groomed Nordic track and over 7 miles of singletrack trails. Fat biking is part of all the ticket passes at Targhee. Stop by Teton Mountain Outfitters for on-mountain fat bike rentals or Habitat in Driggs to rent fat bikes so you can take on Jolly Green Giant, The Core, Hamster Loop, and the Rick’s Basin trails.

Skiing groomers Grand Targhee

Grand Targhee is also home to snowshoeing with a naturalist and with some of the highest elevation groomed Nordic tracks in the Tetons—the base area is 7851 feet. With 15km of groomed classic cross-country trails and skate skiing lanes that wind through wooded glades, aspen groves, and scenic meadows—Grand Targhee’s Nordic trails are impressive terrain—Rick’s Basin and Quakie Ridge are considered by many to be the most beautiful Nordic terrain in the Tetons.

And if you’re at the Ghee for the day, there’s no better way to refill your coffers than with a stop at the Trap Bar and Grill—where the Bloody Mary is a banquet in a glass, and the Wydaho fries will change your opinion forever when it comes to après snacking.

The Trap is also known for its live music and rowdy weekend bookings with bands. Be sure to check out their calendar for all the events—including the Christmas Ugly Sweater party—yes, ski bum culture is alive and doing well on the West side.
