Teton County, WY:
Teton County recognizes the impact that the Teton Pass landslide and road closure will have on employees and businesses in Teton County, Wyoming. This impact will be especially difficult on employees who have long commutes into Teton County.

On June 12, 2024, the Teton County Board of County Commissioners approved the Teton County Emergency Declaration Regarding Teton Pass Road Closure and Commuter Traffic. Teton County is temporarily waiving the regulations on Temporary Shelters as defined in Section 6.1.12. D. of the Land Development Regulations, under the following limitations.

Temporary Shelters include a mobile home or camping unit. A Camping Unit includes recreational vehicles, campers, trailers, motorhomes, tents, yurts, tepees, or other shelters not certified under the International Residential or Building Code or by HUD. This waiver applies only during the current Emergency Declaration. This waiver applies only to employees who work in Teton County, Wyoming. The waiver does not allow temporary shelters or camping for visitors, tourists, or other people who do not work in Teton County, Wyoming.

Community Foundation of Teton Valley:
Supporting Our Community During the Teton Pass Closure

The unexpected closure of Teton Pass has significant and multifaceted impacts on the Teton Valley community. This crucial route is a vital link for residents, commuters, tourists, and commercial traffic between our region and Jackson Hole. With a large percentage of local residents commuting daily over Teton Pass for work, education, and critical services, the closure increases travel, fuel, and daycare costs while affecting an already tenuous work-life balance.

As the Community Foundation of Teton Valley, we feel it is critical to be involved with efforts to help those most affected. We will continue to work with Teton County, Idaho, and other partners during the interagency response. As the hub for local organizations, we will help nonprofits navigate needs and capacity as the situation continues to unfold. A link to the Teton Valley Opportunity Fund has been posted on our site for those who wish to support services focused on emergency response. We will also continue communicating with the Community Foundation of Jackson Hole to coordinate efforts on both sides of the pass.

Please do not hesitate to reach out with questions or ideas at 208.354.0230, bself@cftetonvalley.org, or feel free to stop by – our doors are always open.

Community Foundation of Jackson Hole:
Connecting our Local Commuting Workforce with Temporary Housing Solutions

Teton Valley and Teton County are one blended community, as the temporary closure of Teton Pass clearly demonstrates. Teton Valley commuters make Jackson a fully functional community, providing our teachers and first responders, making hospitality and retail services here operational. We have the answers to workforce and commute challenges if we work together. This is a time where our actions can make a real difference.

The Community Foundation of Jackson Hole hopes to connect available housing options with our neighbors affected by the pass closure who need temporary housing solutions.

The Community Foundation of JH will connect you to opportunities as they become available.

Queridos amigos y vecinos,

Mogul Capital:
Jackson Business Community, as the owners of the Jackson SouthTown and the Pony Express Jackson, we have heard from many of you seeking temporary housing solutions for your employees due to the Teton Pass road closure.

We would like to also offer our property located at 350 N Cache for RV parking, Truck parking, and tent camping for your employees impacted by the Teton pass road closure.  There is no charge to park here during the road closure and hope that this helps in some small way for your employees.

Please contact Cindy Smith at Mogul Capital to coordinate any parking or camping needs for your employees on this block at 350 N Cache. Cindy's email is cindys@mogulcapital.com.

Tips

  • Safety  If you use or recreate near the pass, please stay clear of the areas where WYDOT is working. The area is unstable, and any safety incidents could cause further delays. WYDOT is working hard to find a safe and stable resolution. Avoid directing visitors to these areas and give WYDOT the space they need to work effectively.
  • Employers –Consider implementing a hybrid schedule to ease the burden on your staff who drive through the passes and canyons between 6-8am. For example, you could have your Jackson staff start earlier, and your commuting staff arrive later and stay later. Get creative and discuss potential solutions with your team. Your commuting staff might have valuable insights.
  • Commuters – Carpool with colleagues or friends who have similar schedules. Discuss setting up a ride-share program to the START transfer stops or arrange to share rides for the entire commute. Reducing the number of single-occupancy vehicles can help alleviate road congestion during the closure.
  • Community Support – We have received offers of resources from individuals and businesses. If you have resources to share, please email casey@jacksonholechamber.com with the details and your contact information. We will include this in our upcoming communications so you can be reached directly.

This information is being shared on behalf of local community organizations. Please confirm all details directly with the organization or individual.
