Guns are part of Jackson Hole's history and still have a strong presence in our western culture.
The earliest documented evidence of people in Jackson Hole date to about 11,000 years ago. Over the next several thousand years, many different indigenous groups established campsites and transportation routes throughout the valley. Archeological sites show that hunting weapons improved from spears to bow and arrows to hunt elk, bison or bighorn sheep, which were prevalent. In time the primary hunting weapon became guns and remain so today.
